Online Roulette Rules

The game of Roulette is played by spinning a small ball on a round wheel with thirty-eight numbered slots. When the wheel stops, the ball comes to rest in one of these slots. The object of Roulette is to correctly predict the slot in which the ball will land. By predicting the right number, you earn a payoff on your bet. The size of the payoff depends on how the bet was placed.

How to play Roulette

You can place nine different kinds of bets on the Roulette table. Each type of bet covers a certain range of numbers, and each type has its own payoff rate. The short lines of three numbers each are called rows on the board, while the longer lines, each holding twelve, are called columns. The first six types of bets are all made on the numbered space or on the lines between them and are called inside bets, while the last three types are made on the special boxes below and to the right of the board and are called outside bets:

Straight-up bet - A bet made on a single number (including 0 or 00). Place this bet by putting your chips squarely in the center of the number you want. This bet is a long shot, and pays 35 to 1.

Split bet - A bet on any two adjoining numbers (including 0 and 00). To place this bet put your chips on the line separating the two numbers. If either of the two numbers are where the ball comes to rest, you win. Pays 17 to 1.

Street bet - A single bet that covers three numbers in a row. Place your chip on the outside line of the row you want to bet. Pays 11 to 1.

Corner bet - A single bet on four adjoining numbers that form a square. Place your chip where the four numbers converge. This is also known as a square bet or a quarter bet, depending on the casinos roulette rules and titles. Pays 8 to 1.

Five-number bet - This bet can be made in only one place and covers five numbers: zero, double zero, one, two and three. Place your chip at the corner of the intersection of 0, 1, and the first dozen. Pays 6 to 1.

Six-number bet - this is better known as a "line bet". This bet covers two adjacent rows of numbers. To make this bet, place your chip on one of the outside lines at the intersection of two rows. This bet pays 5 to 1.

Red/Black, Even/Odd, 1-18/19-36 - A bet that the winning number will be the color you bet on, an even or odd number, or that the number will fall either in the range of lower numbers (1-18) or the range of high numbers (19-31). All of these bets pay 1 to 1.

Columns - Placing a chip in one of the boxes marked "2 to 1" at the end of the columns covers all the numbers in that column, a total of twelve. (Neither the zero nor the double zero are covered by any of the columns).

Dozen bet - a bet on either the first dozen numbers (1-12), the second dozen (13-24), or the third dozen (25-36). Pays 2 to 1.
